Sofia Bellerby is redefining what it means to be an open-format DJ in London. Currently holding a coveted residency at the stunning rooftop restaurant, Mezemiso, at the Hyatt Hotel, Sofia's talent and passion for music are evident in every performance, making her one of the capital's most versatile and sought-after DJs.

Sofia's musical journey began with the purest of beginnings: as a young girl, she would dance and sing around her living room, blissfully unaware of the path it would lead her down. As her passion for music grew, Sofia immersed herself in learning various instruments, earning top grades in singing throughout her pre-teen years. Recognised as the best music student during her secondary school years, she went on to pursue an extended diploma in performing arts at college, graduating with a flawless 100%.

It was only after leaving college that Sofia found her true calling in the music industry. While clubbing in London, an encounter with a DJ would prove pivotal. Asked to pick a song, the DJ jokingly suggested that she herself should become a DJ. That playful exchange sparked an idea that would soon evolve into a fully-fledged career, and four years later, BellerBeatz was born—Sofia’s original DJ name before adopting her current moniker, Sofia Bellerby.

DJing wasn’t Sofia’s only passion. She also delved into producing her own beats, a hobby that would further enhance her creative repertoire. Her original stage name, 'BellerBeatz', was a nod to these instrumentals, as well as a playful spin on her surname. Taking her early work to a close friend and respected London DJ (voted the city's best DJ five times), Sofia found the encouragement she needed to fully commit to her music career.

A year into her DJ journey, Sofia began organising her own events in Wandsworth, South West London. Despite having no formal background in event management, she pulled off a remarkable experience, curating performances from multiple artists, DJs, and even a celebrity magician, all while securing sponsorship from a drinks brand. 

Mastering multiple genres and building an expansive library of music, Sofia’s versatility quickly caught the attention of a wide variety of audiences. This has led her to DJ at Arabic events, North African soirées, and Turkish nights, seamlessly blending international sounds to cater to diverse crowds.

Her talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. Sofia has been featured twice on BBC Sounds and, in March 2024, Sofia was invited by Westside Radio to host her own show. Every Monday night from 9-11pm, Sofia takes listeners on a musical journey, from Hip Hop and R&B to Amapiano, Afrobeats, and beyond. Her presence has even reached international airwaves, with a feature on Ghana's Oroko Radio.

At Mezemiso, Sofia brings a Middle Eastern flair to her sets, creating an atmosphere as captivating as the venue’s stunning rooftop views. As guests enjoy Lebanese-Japanese fusion cuisine and sip cocktails under the glow of the London skyline, Sofia curates the evening’s soundtrack with a blend of oriental deep house and recognisable house remixes. Guests are treated to music from record labels such as Café De Anatolia and artists like The AB Brothers. As the evening progresses, a belly dancer and darbuka drummer take the stage, accompanied by upbeat Middle Eastern rhythms that get the crowd moving. By the end of the night, every guest has been touched by Sofia’s unique sound. 

With glowing reviews and a legion of returning guests, Sofia Bellerby continues to cement her reputation as the best and most versatile DJ in London. Her musical journey, marked by passion, dedication, and a natural ear for production, is one that continues to inspire—and entertain—all who have the pleasure of hearing her play.
